ACCESSIBILITY

At Plush Cafe we're passionate about inclusivity!

We want all our guests to have an amazing experience with us every time they visit. We know that for some guests accessibility can be a problem, particularly in York with its historic, often wonky, buildings (like ours!) and cobblestone pavements. This is why we want to be as open as possible about our building and it's layout - so you can make an informed decision before setting off to visit us.

We are committed to making our cafe as accessible as we can, but, unfortunately, we do have some limitations as it is a Grade II listed building spanning 4 floors (and a basement!) on one of the oldest streets in York (it was the first stone-paved road in York and has retained its Roman-built paved surface. The name Stonegate appears on records as early as 1118!).

Getting Here & Parking

We are located in a pedestrianised area of the city centre. Stonegate has no vehicle access from 10:30 am every day.

We are about a 10 minute walk from York Train Station (Station Rd, York YO24 1AB). Blue Badge holders can park free of charge in council car parks and on-street 'pay and display' bays. Find out more about Blue Badge parking in York here.

Main Entrance and Retail Store

There is a small step to the entrance of the shop from the pavement. The front door measures 81.5 cm wide. The shop has a relatively low counter and we use portable payment terminals.

The Neon Room

The Neon Room is on the ground floor, accessed through the retail store at the end of a gently ramped corridor which is 72 cm wide. The tables and chairs in the Neon Room can be moved to provide more space, if necessary. The room itself is relatively small but we'd be happy to do what we can to make your visit more comfortable. This room has traditional seating.

Please be aware that the Neon Room is quite dark, with dim lighting and neon signs. It is also dog-friendly.

Table service is provided as standard, and our menu is available online or in hard copy. Our Team Members will also be happy to take guests through the menu options if requested.

Toilet Facilities

We have two toilets in the building. One on the top floor, which is up some very narrow, steep stairs, and the other is ground floor(ish) - as seen in the pictures below it is only accessible by climbing 3 steps. It is also very small and awkwardly shaped.

Unfortunately, this does not provide full access but publicly available accessible toilets are located nearby the premises. Our staff can help direct you to these or you can see the Changing Places website for a map and list of specialist toilet facilities in York.

The Garden and Bohemian Rooms

These rooms are on our 1st floor up a steep flight of stairs. There are handrails in place. The Garden Room has swings and bench seating, whilst the Bohemian Room has floor cushions and low tables.
